About TwoPointZero.io
A specialist practice, deliberately small, focused on one problem: making institutional data outlast the individuals who currently hold it together.
TwoPointZero.io Ltd was incorporated in London in December 2020. We work with small, specialist higher-education providers — institutions with the same statutory duties as large universities, but where critical data and know-how often rest with a handful of people. Our current work is with a small specialist performing-arts higher-education provider.
We are the deliberate opposite of a generalist software house: small enough to be proportionate, specialist enough that HESA and OfS data is the core competence rather than one vertical among many.
One person, plainly
TwoPointZero.io is one person — the named director. If you are evaluating us, you are right to weigh that, so we answer it structurally rather than rhetorically: everything we claim can be tested hands-on before any decision; you keep everything if we ever disappear — a perpetual licence to all code and documentation, an exit ramp from day one, and repository access from the start of an engagement; and knowledge transfer is acceptance-tested, so you can run, maintain and extend your system without us. There is no handoff between a bid team and a delivery team: the person who scopes your project is the person who delivers it. We would rather be retained for usefulness than for lock-in.
Principal
Peter Lau is TwoPointZero.io's founding director. He is a software engineer whose work centres on institutional data: student records systems, HESA Data Futures reporting, and the governance that keeps both dependable through staff and system transitions.
What already exists
We build in the open where we can, and we would rather show than tell. Work that already exists and can be demonstrated hands-on — using invented data and published datasets only:
- A HESA quality-rule engine: HESA Data Platform rule behaviour — including the tolerance (Inside/Outside) model — reconstructed from the published specifications, firing live on a demonstration cohort.
- A specification-as-data corpus: versioned snapshots of the HESA specification (schema, valid entries, quality rules, tolerances) with cross-version diffing — the machinery that makes regulatory change routine.
- A reporting toolkit: NSS-, Graduate Outcomes-, APP- and course-survey-style dashboards built on published OfS and HESA datasets — audit-tabled, peer-benchmarked, board-ready.
- Student information system prototypes: staged application forms with upload and payment, an OEAPI-aligned data model, an identifier graph, a tamper-evident audit chain, cryptographic erasure and maker-checker sign-off.
- Qualification mapping from entry qualifications through RQF levels to HESA coding — the unglamorous admissions data quality work.
